Dance at OLSH College
Expression in motion
Dance offers students a way to express ideas, tell stories and connect with others through movement. Students explore a range of styles and approaches, developing skill, creativity and an appreciation for dance as both an art form and a shared experience.
Learning in the classroom
Students engage in structured and creative lessons that develop technique, performance and choreographic skills. They explore different dance styles and learn to interpret music and ideas through movement, building both individual capability and an understanding of ensemble performance.
Creative exploration and performance
Dance provides opportunities for students to create and present their own work, as well as participate in group performances. Through rehearsals and performances, students experience the process of refinement, collaboration and presenting work to an audience.
Beyond the classroom
Co-curricular dance opportunities allow students to extend their interests and participate in performances and College events. These experiences create a strong sense of community and belonging, while offering additional opportunities to develop skills and share their work.
Pathways and progression
Dance learning develops across each stage of a student’s journey. In Years 7 and 8, students build foundational skills in technique, movement and performance. In Years 9 and 10, they can deepen their interest through elective Dance subjects. In Years 11 and 12, students may continue through SACE Dance, developing their skills in performance, choreography and critical analysis.
